Avoid Damage to Optical Media

Deep Scratches, dirt and finger prints are some of the problems we face with regard to optical media. Have a look at the some of the tips which will help you extend the life span of your CDs, DVDs and so on.
  • Wipe the disc in a radial fashion with a soft lint-free cloth. Start stroking from the center of the disc towards the circumference (outer circle). This will avoid scratches running parallel to the tracks while minimizing chances of damage.
  • Glass cleaning solutions are a good choice finger prints and dirt, but always tray to be gentle in order to avoid scratches.
  • A disc having scratches can be polished and buffed rid of scratches where are buffing is meant for taking care of critically deep scratches. Commercial plastic polishes such as those sold at auto parts stores are good for milder scratches.
  • When writing on the top surface of the disc, use a pen with a soft felted tip which will not damage the lacquer coating on the disc. This coating is pretty fine, if damaged, will result in running the entire disc.
