Lenovo ThinkPad T410

The Lenovo ThinkPad T410, the latest addition to the T-series, is said to be one of the best notebooks for business in recent times. Not only does it perform well, it also scores with its superb battery life. It is thinner and more attractive than its predecessors and is priced at $1, 269 (Rs. 58, 971); powered by Nvidia graphics.

It has a good, solid design and is fairly easy to carry. The keyboard, with its strong tactile feedback has a good design, like all other ThinkPads and the accurate touchpad supports multi-touch gestures like pinch in/out to zoom. The 14.1-inch LED backlit screen serves well while watching movies and playing games and has a webcam on top of it. It is shipped with either integrated Intel GMA HD Graphics or the Nvidia NVS 3100M (256MB DDR3) and both perform remarkably

The ThinkPad comes with a lot of different configurations: the processor can be either 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-520M, 2.53GHz Intel Core i5-540M, or 2.66GHz Intel Core i7-620M. We have already specified the GPU variations and when it comes to storage, if you are not going for the 128GB SSD, then hard drives with sizes 250GB, 320GB or 500GB are available, in either 5400rpm or 7200rmp speed.

It comes with a one year warranty that can be upgraded to three/four years. The ThinkPad T410 not only keeps up with the high level, it also proves to be even better than its predecessor, T400, by offering more enhancements.

Dell launches world’s thinnest laptop, Adamo XPS

The world’s thinnest laptop at 9.9mm, the Adamo XPS is an absolute stunner!
There’s a unique mechanism to start up your Adamo XPS. The device has a capacitive latch release, so when you swipe your finger over it, the keyboard appears from under the display and blue LED lights indicate you are good to go. Adamo engineers refined the traditional laptop design by cleverly relocating key components and fitting the keyboard inside the reinforced display when closed.
The body is slightly raised, giving the keyboard a comfortable angle to type on. Above the keyboard, you will be greeted by a 13.4-inch widescreen HD (720p) display, encased in the aluminium body.
Running on Windows 7 (64-bit), the machine is powered by a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo ULV processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD). As with all such ultra-thin laptops, there is no optical drive included.
Other features of the Dell Adamo XPS include Wi-Fi, built-in location awareness to provide real time local maps to show people where they are, and dongles for Ethernet, VGA and HDMI connections. The built-in battery claims to last for up to 5 hours and 17 minutes of usage on a single charge.
The Dell Adamo XPS is now available in India for Rs. 1,50,000. That’s a really steep price tag, even outpricing the MacBook Air.

Acer Aspire One AOD250 (Android)

Android Dissected
No matter how you slice it, Android is a Linux-based operating system. It'll look foreign at first, but Acer did its best to make this early release intuitive. Dual-booting Google's Android operating system isn't that bold when you can leave at anytime and head back to Windows XP Home Edition. Acer already made that mistake once by shipping a netbook with only Linux installed, and it suffered a high return rate because of it.

There are four "gadgets" visible on the main screen in Android, they include Google Talk, FireFox's Web browser, Webmail, and Calendar. What looks like a peel-off tab on the top left corner gets you back into Windows XP, in case frustration builds—and it will. On the far right is a slide-out tab that houses a drawer filled with 20 other gadgets that control anything from system settings, your music files and photo, Webcam, Gmail, etc.A reboot is required to enter Android. When you're in Windows XP, there's an Android configuration tool right on the desktop, which lets you activate the Android OS so that it's the first thing that boots. Within this tool, you can also log into your Google account, create POP mail accounts, automate software updates, and recover Android if anything goes wrong.

The Escape, Arrow, and Enter keys are your closest allies in this operating system. Any time you get lost or get too deep into an application, you can ESC-key back out into the home page. Whether it's punching in Wi-Fi settings, changing the wallpaper, or customizing power management settings, these tasks are made simple by Android. All the options are laid out in big gray tabs, where it's just a matter of clicking them with your mouse button or hitting the Enter key.

Setting up a Gmail and hotmail accounts were simple. You don't have look for incoming and outgoing server addresses; just punch in your username and password, and Android configures and gets mail in your inbox in a matter of seconds. You can receive e-mails with attachments, as long as they're media files (there is currently no document support in this release, and Android Marketplace is not available in this build, so you can't purchase and download a document editing program; you can e-mail Word documents or spreadsheets, but Android won't recognize them). With Google Talk and Google Calendar access, you'll need to have an account ready before you can run them in Android. FireFox is your Web browser, which handled most Websites the same way a Windows version would, including sites like Youtube, Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter. A Web site like Hulu, however, didn't work because Adobe Flash Player 10 won't be available for Android until next year.

The model features an isolated keyboard with springy and responsive keys making it comfortable and easy to use. Its carefully designed touchpad and mouse keys make the PC functional and mouse movements easy to control. The Vaio W model comes in three vibrant colors- pink, white and brown. Western Digital Unveils 1TB, 750GB Notebook Drives

Western Digital on Monday released its new 1-Tbyte and 750-Gbyte WD Scorpio Blue 2.5-inch internal SATA hard drives.
Both drives are in the 12.5-mm form factor, so they will fit in notebooks and small form factor desktops. The new 1TB capacity doubles the 500GB capacity that had become the large capacity standard for 2.5-inch hard drives. They also deliver a high performance 3Gb per second transfer rate.
The 750GB WD Scorpio Blue internal drive is available now for $189.99 and the 1TB version will be available for $249.99.
Both can be purchased as external USB 2.0 drives as part of WD's Passport Essential SE line for $299.99 (1TB) and $199.99 (750GB). They have WD features like WhisperDrive for quiet use, drop resistant ShockGuard, and SecurePark for more shock tolerance.
The internal and external drives show that users are still clamoring for more and more storage, especially with the prevalence of smartphones and digital cameras that can capture video. These drives mean that you don't have to forego insane amounts of storage just because you have a laptop.
Because of the current price point, and since the drive is 12.5mm, it's unlikely you'll see them in netbooks, but you may eventually see them in high-end nettops, or more likely in small form factor systems like the Apple Mac mini.

Logitech launches N100 notebook cooling pad

Does using your laptop for a long duration usually end up with a burning sensation at uncomfortable spots? And according to Logitech, 43 per cent of consumers are worried that excessive notebook heat can slow or damage their PC.
The numbers might be a bit bloated, but the discomfort caused by a hot laptop is quite real. So here’s a nifty little solution that should ensure your thighs never have to bear the brunt of extreme temperatures again.
Logitech’s N100 notebook cooling pad claims to improve the airflow around your laptop, by using a built-in fan that that uses a rear air intake to circulate air via a slotted surface.
The cooling pad is powered by USB, which claims to have very little effect on your notebook PC’s battery life.
Weighing about 650 grams, the device can support laptops with a screen size not more than 15.4 inches. And yes, Macbooks work fine with this too.
Covered by three years of warranty, the N100 cooling pad retails at Rs 1995. More details about the gadget can be found
here.

Best Buy Selling HP Netbook for Under $1

In the tech world you often get what you pay for. With that old adage in mind, one shouldn't really expect all that much from the $.99 HP Mini 110c currently available from Best Buy. That said, a buck doesn't seem like a big price to pay for a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 process, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive, right?

What about $.99 plus $1,440? Thing is, one's calculations should be more akin to buying a cell phone. That sub-$1 price tag is actually subsidized by Sprint, meaning, in order to actually get the netbook, you've got to opt into a two-year data plan at $60 a month.

Sony Joins the Netbook Market

Sony on Tuesday announced the launch of its Vaio W-Series of mini-notebooks, or netbooks, which the company is billing as a "perfect family accessory."

While some could argue that the Lifestyle PC was really Sony's first foray into the netbook category, the W-Series represents Sony's official notice that it's throwing its hat into the netbook ring.

The W-Series PC measures 10.5 inches high by 1.28 inches wide by 7.1 inches deep, and weighs in at 2.6 pounds. It comes in three colors – berry pink, sugar white and cocoa brown – and sports a 10-inch widescreen display, which is a pretty common size for netbooks. The screen comes in 1,366 x 768 resolution, which should give it an edge over the vast majority of netbooks out there. It offers 2 USB ports, VGA Out, and Ethernet ports, as well as a webcam and multimedia slots for Memory Stick Duo and SD memory.

Like most netbooks, the Sony Vaio W-Series comes with an Intel Atom processor, in this case a 1.66-GHz N280. The system has 1 Gbyte of system memory, and a 160-GB, 5,400-RPM hard drive. In terms of networking capability, the W-Series has Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g, and Bluetooth technology. It comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed.

Other apps include Sony's VAIO Multimedia Suite (VAIO Media plus Multimedia Streaming Software), as well as a 30-day trial of Norton Internet Security 2009 and a 60-day trial of Microsoft Home and Student 2007.

With the W-Series, Sony seems to be emphasizing what you might call its "ecoconsiousness"; the W-Series is Energy Star 5.0 compliant and EPEAT GOLD registered. Its LCD is mercury free, and the packaging the system comes in is comprised of 95 percent recycled cardboard packaging. Sony also says it will help recycle your old PC. (Some fees may apply; for more details, visit Sony's "green" site.)

The Sony VAIO W-Series is available for pre-order at www.sonystyle.com and will be available in major retail stores in the U.S. beginning in August, with a price tag of about $500.
